Little Family Getaway

We weren't doing a family vacation this year but we felt as though we wanted to do a little something fun together.  So we did a quick family getaway.  We went to Edmonton and did a few fun things and had some time to visit with Ashley.  It was a really fun filled, quick trip.  We tried to pack in all of the activities we could into our couple of days.  It was a great time.

This little boy sure loves Elliette.  She takes him and carries him and plays with him.  They are a really cute little pair.

We went on the old trolley up over the high level bridge.  They boys are in love with trains and trolleys, so they were thrilled.

Another big thing that we did was a whole day at Galaxyland.  We were very excited about going on some rides. I love these cute boys sticking together waiting for their turn on the little dragon roller coaster.

Baylor is showing me how big he is.  There were a number of rides that he was too small to go on, so he thought if he showed his muscles he might show how big he is.  Too bad that can't make you taller!

This was a great roller coaster for Marshall.  It went fast enough but along a track that didn't go upside down or spin the cars around.  He really liked this one.  He went on another one, that he was just tall enough to go on.  It had 4 person cars that spun around, making you go backwards and spinning sometime while going around corners or downhill.  He was just screaming on that ride that he was going to die.  He came off of it crying and told me that he nearly died on it. It was sad that he was scared but a very dramatic reaction that was entertaining.  He recovered quickly and found other rides that he liked.

We did a tour of the Alberta Legislature building.  It was interesting but the boys had a really tough time and we didn't manage to finish the tour.  Sometimes it is best to just get out and play in the water anyways!

We had a great visit with Uncle Gordy and Aunt Brenda.  I love this picture with these guys visiting and the whole pile of watermelon that they appear to have completed themselves.  There were many soaking wet fronts of small children that helped them out with it all! It was a lovely little family getaway!

Potty Training and other Adventures!

Everything with this boy is an adventure.  Potty training was no exception.  I have never had a child that when potty training had to take off all of their clothes every time.  So there was always this naked boy running all around.  He is so fun and happy.  Here is some moments that made us laugh in the process of potty training.

Taking a bath in the sink.  I always find Baylor in the most entertaining places!  This is very typical of his independence.  He just thinks of something and goes and does it!

 These boys love cars.  If we are ever missing Baylor we would go and look in the garage, he would be in the car.  He even got in trouble by some neighbors by trying to get into their cars.  One night I got up with the baby and saw that Baylors bedroom door was open.  I then heard the garage door slam and ran down to find Baylor trying to get into the van at 2 in the morning.  We have had to find all kinds of creative ways to keep this boy out of the car.  But here he is driving a vintage car at Heritage Park.  He is in his glory!

 We would take these boys with us a couple of times as we went looking at new cars. They were very happy to sit in a play with buttons in a lot of different cars.  Especially fancy race cars like this.  Baylor even knew when we were driving in the general area of the car dealerships and would ask to go to the car dealership.  It was so cute to hear him say in his little voice that he wanted to go to the car dealership!

These boys almost never fall asleep when we are out.  This was especially surprising to have both boys fall asleep. I enjoyed reading my book in a quiet car for a little bit with my sweet boys sleeping away.

Our Garden

We worked so hard to get our garden started this year.  Including building a planter for our strawberries and trellis kind of things for our peas and beans.  We worked to nourish our soil, take out a fence from the garden, get out all of the tree shoots, plant and label the garden.  Then it was a lot of watering as we had nearly no rain all summer.  But the work was very worthwhile as we have never had such a productive garden ever!

We planted potatoes into those buckets.  They did so well in there.  We filled then up with more soil later to help them produce more.

We planted lots of raspberry plants in this spot.  They did pretty well, even for their first year there.  We look forward to lots of raspberries in future years!

We had a very fun time making these pretty sticks for labeling our rows.  It was beautiful and very helpful!

This was our little tomato plants.  They started out at only a couple of inches and we babied them inside and out for a few weeks.  It was a new experience for me but they did very well!

 Here is our beautiful garden.  This was even in the middle of the summer.  Some of it got even more full!  Like those beans growing up the trellis, They were up over the top onto the other side!  They were amazing.  We ate all that we could along through the summer and still had the most incredible harvest at the end.  We couldn't have eaten more peas or green beans then we had.  Dawsyn picked carrots all summer and we still have more to last us months after harvest time.

 It was great family time to spend taking in our harvest together!

We ate potatoes nearly every day!  They were so good fresh from the garden!

It just kept coming.  We had large harvests a number of times, even after feeling like we ate so much as things came up.  We were so successful this year and look forward to enjoying a large garden, and learning more in the process, for years to come!
